USA TODAY article titled “Hispanic Worker Deaths up 76% since 1992” discusses a serious and current issue among the workforce in several industries.  The following is a summary of the content…

The 2007 tally from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recorded 990 Hispanic deaths in 2006.  In Texas, 50 Hispanic workplace deaths were investigated by OSHA officials last year.

Workers who cannot provide legal documentation to work in the U.S. are more averse to joining a union, which helps protect workers from such negligence on the job.

The underlying issue behind these fatalities is the lack of proper training and the language barrier.  VPP is designed to promote awareness and keep the workplace safe, but we cannot hold a blind eye to any slightest possible cause of injury or even death.
